Rohit Sharma vs Hardik Pandya: The War for Captaincy
In 2003, when Alex Ferguson of Manchester United dropped David Beckham and transferred him to Real Madrid, such decisions are not new for clubs. So, why are Mumbai Indians getting so much criticism from netizens after removing Rohit Sharma from the captaincy?
Five trophies in ten seasons, all achieved with calm determination. Rohit Gurunath Sharma is a player whose records speak for themselves. The IPL is known as one of the toughest T20 leagues globally, and managing the famous and star-studded Mumbai Indians team amidst the chaos showcases the persona of this player.
When he took on the captaincy, he was surrounded by world champions like Sachin Tendulkar and Mitchell Johnson, along with a star-studded staff. Yet, he calmly maintained the balance with seniors and provided a comfortable atmosphere for youngsters like Surya Kumar Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, and many more.
I started watching Rohit Sharma in 2013 when he first became the captain of MI. Before that, I saw him two times: in the 2007 T20 World Cup and then in the Tri-Nation CB Series in Australia. My favorite team was Kolkata Knight Riders, and at that time, I admired Gautam Gambhir and witnessed his captaincy. He won two titles for the team. I also saw M.S. Dhoni’s leadership as an absolute legend. But gradually, I became glued to Rohit and his captaincy.
Leading his team in 158 matches and winning 87, the impact he made is evident for everyone to see. Cricket fans’ reactions suggest dissatisfaction with the franchise’s move. The Mumbai Indians fans have not taken the captaincy announcement easily. It is noticed that Mumbai Indians’ Instagram handle has lost over 150,000 followers within 12 hours of the announcement.
But my question is, are they just fans of Rohit Sharma, or do they not want to see Hardik as the captain of MI?
Regardless, I appreciate Rohit’s captaincy, but I like Hardik’s captaincy as well. He captained Gujrat Titans in 2022 and made that team champion and this year’s runners-up, he’s doing something right. As a cricket fans We can see, that MI hasn’t had the last few years go their way.
I love Rohit Sharma’s captaincy as much as you do. Every team needs a transformation, and now MI needs it.
